Welcome to my strikingly.com website.
I am a medical doctor (MD) specializing in Occupational Medicine/ Hygiene, Diabetology, Ph.D. in Public Health and Community Medicine (Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion). I was awarded a Swedish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European Centre of Gender Excellence, specializing in Thematic Gender Studies at Linkoping University, Sweden.
In Nepal, I am the sole Occupational Physician registered with the Nepal Medical Council and proudly serve as the first Nepali Professor of Community Medicine at Kathmandu University.
My current role as the Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC), Kathmandu University involves teaching undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD, Ph.D.) medical students, as well as mentoring students from various foreign universities. I hold visiting professorships at the Faculty of Health, AS, University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), UK, Faculty of Health, Science and Technology, Nepal Open University, Nepal, and Faculty of Health and Well Being, Sri Sri University (SSU), Odisha, India.
Since 2006, I've been actively engaged in injury, violence, and disability prevention activities in Nepal. I've served as a National Consultant for the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health and Population, contributing significantly to policy formulation and strategy development in these areas. My contributions include drafting essential documents such as the National Policy and Strategy for occupational injuries/diseases, now incorporated into Nepal's recent Labour Act, Rules, and Social Security Scheme Operational Guidelines. Additionally, I've played a pivotal role in drafting crucial aspects like pillar 5 - Post-crash response in the Decade of Action for Road Safety.
As the Director of the Nepal Injury Research Centre (NIRC) within the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Nepal Injury Research, established at Kathmandu Medical College, I'm deeply involved in research and policy initiatives. Furthermore, I serve as the Co-Director of SAFETrIP Nepal NIHR Global Health Policy and Systems Research and act as the Country Lead Investigator for the HIPCARE NIHR RIGHT Programme, both associated with prominent UK-based institutions.
My contributions extend nationally and globally, having been elected as President of the Society of Public Health Physician Nepal (SOPHPHYN) and a Board Member of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) for consecutive terms (2018-2022 and 2022-2024). http://www.icohweb.org/
